The Pediatric Oncology/Hematology unit is a specialty 14-bed unit that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of children, usually up until the age of 18, who have cancer and/or a hematological disorder. The Registered Nurses in Pediatric Oncology/Hematology are care coordinators and collaborate with other team members in order to provide the best care possible (Psychology, Social Work, Pharmacy, Physicians, Dietary, Nurse Practitioner, etc.) Registered Nurse primarily strives to help their patients reach realistic healthcare goals through appropriate assessment, intervention, and implementation of goals of care, documentation, and evaluation. They have the ability to provide, guide, and evaluate nursing practice delivered to individuals diagnosed with cancer, their families, and the community.
