Emergency Department RN
The emergency department has 16 beds. Patient ratios are 3-4:1 or 1:1 for trauma or critical patients. Staffing includes unit secretaries and tech availability. Equipment includes Bd insyte IVs and a documentation system. Staff will be required to work 36 hours per week either from 06:00 to 18:00 or 18:00 to 06:00, including two weekends a month. Floating policy states that RNs will not float to the emergency department unless cross-trained. Advanced skills required include EKGs, breathing treatments, digit blocks, and knowledge of chest tubes, central lines, and lumbar puncture setup. Procedures performed on the unit include peripheral IV insertion, ultrasound-guided IV insertion, IO insertion management, central line dressing changes, and specimen collection.
